Ceramic Vase with Lavender Crystalline Glaze
Studio pottery vase in rich salmon color, the glaze featuring lavender crystalline highlights.
A crystalline glaze is the result of a unique process. The firing temperature during glazing is raised approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit above the melting point of the glaze - this dissolves the ‘seed crystals’ of zinc silicate. The work is then cooled and kept around a specific point (generally ~2000F ), allowing the dissolved material to blend with the still-liquid glaze. The resulting spread develops a beautiful, fractal pattern as it solidifies.
Materials: glazed ceramic body, zinc-silicate crystals.
Condition: Excellent, no damage or wear, illegibly marked on base.
Dimensions: 8” H x 5” Dia
