Six Chinese Export dinner plates, each with an en grisaille armorial crest of Patten quartering Hamerton, Gorley, and Peake. Each octagonal plate with gilt diaper surround and leaf, shell, and scroll designs in the rococo taste.

David Howard in Chinese Armorial Porcelain shows an identical plate on pg 372 from the collection of John Willins and considers it “most probably this service was made for Thomas Patten, High Sheriff of Lancashire 1773, who married in 1757 Dorothea, daughter of Robert Bold, MP of Lancashire.”
